Writing about Creativity in MBA Admission Essays

Though the honorific term "creative" implies several things, still it is difficult to come up with precise definition. This is really important to understand because the word is so terribly misused many a times. The term "creativity" is derived from the Latin word Creare: to make and the Greek word Krainein: to fulfill. Thus, we can approach creativity from one of these two senses.

While writing your essay, you need to show the creative side of you to the admissions committee. You can`t be "creative" unless you are DOING SOMETHING CREATIVELY so demonstrate and give examples of when and how you employed your creative skills towards the betterment of your organization. Show, how you have used your imaginations to "make up" something new and valuable, thus transforming what exists into something better. Illustrate that, by adding unique contributions to the traditional you have succeeded to excel your creativity with innovativeness and outmoded styles with an improvement.

It is scientifically proven that every word has an impact on the human brain system and the neurons are fired according to this impact. So make the best use of your words to exude power and confidence to show the creative side of you. If you sound predictable, ordinary and boring, it is more likely that the listener does not take note of you or you do not stand amongst others. The basic question is – how do I make an impact? And the answer lies in your command over your language, no matter what your role is. You must use the power words and phrases judiciously and sound natural or original rather than playing a rapid fire round of churning out incomprehensible words. This is what you as a creative person should do. As we transcend our past in the things we do, we also become who we can be. Thus, creativity highlights the attitudes by which we fulfill ourselves. It is far more than working in a "creative" field such as art or inventing or research.

Your essay should exemplify that creativity encounters you very flexibly with your world -- an active letting go, an aggressive receptivity and a passive responding. Discuss those creative acts of yours which assimilates and integrates the polarities of your logics and thoughts to find new directions, new solutions, and a fresh viewpoint. The examples of your creativity should be more than mere spontaneity; it should involve deliberation as well. It should be more than divergent thinking; rather it should converge on some solution. It should not sound only generating possibilities, but must also choose among them.

To be creative in any field, you need to have some idea of where you are heading to. A goal to achieve and some general criteria to judge whether you are going toward or away from that objective is beseeched. Seneca, the ancient philosopher, once said, "If a man does not know to what port he is steering, no wind is favorable." Steering your inner creativeness is particularly difficult. As you head towards a goal and you may not fully recognize until you get there.

Creativity is veritably a marvelous function of the human mind to have more fun and find creative solutions to your own problems.
